Once the toolbar appears, click “Extract all” followed by “Extract” when the pop-up window appears. When the “Open With” dialog box appears, double-click your C: drive and then the Program Files folder (as illustrated in the screenshot below). Open the Z-Zip folder. Select the file 7zFM.exe and then click Open; 7-Zip will launch and open the.RAR file. Now it’s time to extract (copy) the files and folders out from inside the RAR.
In order to compress files/folders into a ZIP file or extract files from a ZIP archive in Windows 10, people tend to use software like WinZip or 7-Zip. Actually, Windows systems come with built-in Compressed Folder Tools so that users can compress and uncompress files/folders even without WinZip or any other outside zip tools installed. Now, this page will show you how to zip and unzip files in Windows 10 without WinZip software.
Part 1: How to ZIP files in Windows 10 without WinZip
I will introduce three different ways to create a ZIP file in Windows 10.
Way 1: by sending to the compressed folder
Right-click on the file or folder that you want to compress into a ZIP file, choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder from the context menu.
Tips: If you want to ZIP multiple files/folders together, you need to individually click on the files/folders while holding on the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select all the files, right-click on any one selection, and then select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder from the context menu.
Way 2: from File Explorer
Step 1: Open Windows 10 File Explorer. Locate the file(s) or folder(s) you want to zip and select it/them.
Step 2: Select the Share tab and then click on the Zip button. Compressed Folder Tools will compress the selected file(s) and folder(s) into a ZIP file in the same location. You can rename the ZIP file or accept the suggested name.
Way 3: by dragging files into the existing zip file
Step 1: Right-click on the Windows 10 desktop, select New > Compressed (zipped) Folder from the context menu to create a new zipped folder.
Step 2: Rename the new zipped folder or hit Enter to accept the suggested name.
Step 3: Drag the file(s) and folder(s) you want to zip into the new compressed (zipped) folder. Similarly, you can drag files or folders into any one existing zipped folder.

Part 2: How to unzip files in Windows 10 without WinZip
Step 1: Right-click on the .zip file you want to unzip, and then select Extract All from the context menu.
Step 2: In the 'Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders' dialog, select one destination to save the extracted files, keep Show extracted files when complete checked, and then click Extract. Then it will display an extraction progress dialog box.
Step 3: When the progress is 100%, it will show you the extracted files in the folder you just specified in Step 2.
Above is how compressed folder tools help zip and unzip files in Windows 10 without using WinZip software. The tool is only for compression file of ZIP file form, but can’t apply to RAR format. Learn more options to extract RAR file, see How to Unrar RAR Archive File with WinRAR/WinZIP/7-ZIP.

How To Unzip Files For Free
One of the great features of Windows 10 is the native ability to mount ISO and IMG files in File Explorer with just a double click. The operating system creates a virtual drive which mounts the contents of the disc image file and makes it available, exactly as if you have inserted a physical disc into the optical drive.

The ability to mount ISO files in File Explorer was first introduced in Windows 8. It was one of the best improvements the operating system received.ISO and IMG files are special file disc image formats which can store the captured contents of an optical disc or a removable disk. The disc image file is an exact copy of the contents of some DVD or CD media. It is also possible to make an ISO image file manually from any files you have on any drive, or convert an ESD image to ISO.
To Mount ISO and IMG Files in Windows 10, open File Explorer and go to the folder which stores your ISO file.
Double click the file or right click it and select 'Mount' from the context menu. It is the default context menu command.
The disk image will be mounted in a virtual drive in the This PC folder. See the screenshot.
Sometimes, the file association for ISO or IMG files might be taken over by a third party app. For example, my favorite archiver, 7-Zip can open ISO files. In that case, the ISO file is associated with 7-Zip if you have set it as the default from Control Panel. When double clicked, the ISO file will open in the associated app.
In that case, you can restore default file associations, or mount the file from the context menu.
Right-click the ISO file and select Open with - Windows Explorer. See the following screenshot:
Alternatively, you can restore the default file association. Do it as follows.
- Open Settings.
- Go to System - Default apps. In Windows 10 Creators Update, go to Apps - Default apps.
- There, scroll down in the right pane to the link 'Choose default apps by file type'.
Click it. - On the next page, find the ISO file type.
- On the right side, click to choose Windows Explorer as your new default app. This will restore the default file association.
Note: Windows 10 allows the user to mount ISO and IMG files which are stored on an NTFS partition on the device which is connected to your PC. Other file systems and locations are not supported. For example, if you try to mount an ISO file from a network share, it shows the following message:
[Window Title]
Couldn't Mount File
Couldn't Mount File
[Content]
Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file.
Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file.
[OK]
Alternatively, Windows 10 allows you to mount ISO and IMG files using PowerShell.
Open PowerShell and type the following command:
You can copy the path to the file and paste it into the PowerShell console. See the screenshot below.
Once you finish your work inside the mounted ISO image, you can unmount it.
In File Explorer, open This PC and select 'Eject' from the context menu of the virtual drive.
Alternatively, in PowerShell, use the cmdlet Dismount-DiskImage as follows:
See the following screenshot.
That's it.
